When's the right time to move house?
It is extremely common for sellers to question whether or not it is the right time to sell their property as they decide whether to list their property on the market or not.
And whilst each property and people's circumstances are all different, research from Rightmove has suggested that now is the best chance of finding a buyer over the past ten years across all areas of Great Britain.
Analysing 13 million listings and tracking the journey of a property going up for sale to being marked sold subject to contract, Rightmove found that 68% of homes found a buyer over the last year. In comparison, between 2012 and early 2020, only 53% of homes found a buyer on average, with the other 47% either being withdrawn from sale or staying on the market.
Whilst it has been an uncertain time for many during the pandemic, the property market has continued to see high levels of activity across the UK, partly due to pent up demand and a change in priorities following 18 months of working from home.
And it's even better news for sellers in Scotland, with it having the highest sales rate across Great Britain at 89%
The key findings from the report included:
- Almost seven in ten homes (68%) across Great Britain have found a buyer in the current market, which is the highest percentage recorded over the past ten years
- On average, 53% of properties up for sale successfully found a buyer between 2012 and early 2020, showing the strength of the market over the past year
- Scotland has the highest sales rate in Great Britain at 89%, while London saw the lowest with just under half (48%) of homes being sold
- The top ten places where people were most likely to successfully sell their homes are all in Scotland, with the top three being Falkirk (94%), East Dunbartonshire (94%) and South Lanarkshire (93%)
